Then this weekend it was just a few finishing touches, baseboards, a mirror, hanging the shower curtain, and the guest bathroom is complete.

He was more motivated that I was, which is pretty unusual around here. The vanity we ordered from Home Depot arrived Friday so in preparation I grouted the newly laid tile floor Thursday, so Saturday evening we were able to get the new toilet and vanity installed and working with no leaks. Then tonight, with a little elbow grease and a suggestion from Papo, we managed to get the last bit of plumbing done and leak-free in the shower. That just means we have to put up the last section of backer board and tile the walls to complete the major overhaul in this room. Then it’s just finishing touches… a mirror, shelves, baseboard… etc.

It is already going so much faster than the master bathroom renovation… this is definitely a simpler redo. Tom was a great help on Saturday and we were able to get insulation in the walls (for sound), a niche mounted, and almost all the backer board cut and laid. Then on Sunday Andrew and I were able to lay all the floor tile in about 3 hours. Between the two of us, we’ve master the tile cutting and laying. He only had to make a second cut on one tile for the whole floor. Let’s hope the shower walls go just as smoothly.

The major overhaul is nearly complete! The grout is done curing (after 10 days!) and we were finally able to use our shower for the first time this weekend. Friday the uncracked counter top should arrive and if all goes smoothly the bathroom will be 100% done after this weekend. 🙂 See the start of this project…

Finally! The tiling in the bathroom is done. Now we just need to finish grouting and install the fixtures and it will be ready to use. Andrew also wired the heated floors and they are amazing (our cats are obsessed with them).

Our vanity arrived and is in place, but unfortunately the counter top arrived with a slight crack so we are on hold until the replacement arrives… hopefully within the week.

]]> Trying My Hand at Drywalling http://blog.solanis.net/2011/10/drywalling/ Wed, 19 Oct 2011 01:16:00 +0000 http://blog.solanis.net/2011/10/drywalling/ Unfortunately Andrew has been working crazy, silly hours but I am bound and determine to keep making progress on the bathroom. This past weekend I finished the drywall, taped, mudded and laid the cement board for the floor. We have the plumbing complete for double sinks and Andrew did complete the wiring for our heated floor. Yay! I wasn’t that excited about the heated floor initially but it will be so worth it in the end.

I taped and finished the walls myself after watching almost all of the videos from drywalling expert Laurier Desormeaux. He’s pretty awesome! The true test will be putting on the first coat of primer. Wish me luck!
